My recent stay at the Retreat Guesthouse was a refreshing deviation from the big resort experience, perfectly situated in the hills, about 20-30 minutes from Montego Bay. The seaview room was spacious and clean, offering a lovely ocean view. While not the epitome of luxury that you might find at Sandals, the aesthetic and homey vibe was calming. Joyce and David, the hosts, truly embody Jamaican hospitality. Their genuine efforts to make guests feel at home were evident. Breakfast, prepared by David, was delightful and reasonably priced considering the quality. What stood out was the added value; it's a good spot if you prefer supporting local businesses. The environment is relaxed, and while the bathrooms were somewhat dated, they were impeccably clean. As an environmentally conscious traveler with a knack for marine conservation, I found this guesthouse striking the right balance. It's the perfect alternative for those seeking authenticity at a sensible cost, without the overwhelming rush of large resorts.
